My Race Results
A lot warmer than last year. Managed to run the entire race. About a minute slower than last year. Good to see old friends getting started for the New Year.
Cool for the race - a little over dressed. Had heart/breathing problems around 3 miles so had to walk/run the second half.
Poorly organized. Only 1st place awards. No water on course, course about .16 long (supposed to be certified!), no porta-johns, didn't have the shirt I ordered, had to rush to get chips just before the start of the race. The good news for me was that I had no breathing/pulse issues during the race.
Skipped breakfast but had a bloody mary at Gentle Ben's after the race. Awards still suck! (a wooden spoon)
Not a good race - 6 minutes slower than last year. Didn't push because Grand Prix competitor was home sick and the awards are discounts at the local running store. Lots of rain in the last 3 days but the trails were manageable. Breakfast this year was very good.
Even colder this year! Over dressed to stay warm. Revised start/finish line - I forgot my Garmin but others were saying the course is now long. Didn't stay for awards - Gary is going to collect mine.
New course-new location. Starting to get sick - only beat Don by less than a minute. Didn't catch him until .75 miles to finish.
I did the early start at 5:15 PM for 60+. Given the bronchitis for 3 weeks, I didn't want to be out in the dark after sunset around 6:55 PM. Just made it since the early start was delayed about 5 minutes.
Walked/jogged a couple of miles to loosen up. Legs very heavy. Couldn't maintain an 11 minute pace.
Battling heat and poor conditioning due to health issues. Had to walk a couple of times in mile 4. Still managed to get under 72 minutes - goal was under 75.
Lot of groin pain (imminent hernia?) at the start but managed to pick up the pace in the last 2 miles. Still couldn't catch Don - he beat me by about 7 seconds. Mediocre awards!
Had to walk this year as still within hernia surgery restrictions. Fastest mile I have ever walked. Enjoyed seeing many old friends.
More than 4 minutes slower than last year but I got my 12th first place wooden shoe! Quite humid but I barely met my target of no walking (except for water stop) and within 35 minutes. First race after hernia surgery.
I finished and was able to get under 90 minutes but Bob was about 10 minutes ahead. Tom was having a beer tasting again so everything was good!
Missed my goal by over a minute but still managed to get 2nd in 70+ Age Group. Ken Jankowski was under 50 minutes again and got first place. Thanks to Tom Magill for having a birthday party on Mackinac Island which drew all the faster 70+ guys up there! It was very cool here for a change and I wasn't dressed for it. Shivering before and after the race but warm after 2 miles. No walking for the entire race!
Very chilly and windy this year - fortunately the sun was out. First running since the last race - managed to run the entire race. John Withey cut the course so the official results will show him as 2nd but I'm sure I would have beat him.
First race back in AZ. Very cool when signing up but warmed up as the sun rose over the trees. Had hoped to get under 40 minutes and did better than that. 3rd mile was the fastest and the last .3 miles was under 10:20 pace.
Cool for the women's races and OK for the men's race. Wore my Valpo Turkey Trot long sleeved tech shirt. I had my wind breaker and gloves on until the start.
Cool, overcast and windy. No age group awards. Overdressed as usual for the cold and was really sweating about half way. I had the start time messed up so was standing around for nearly 30 minutes before the race actually started. Managed to run the entire distance.
